Q: What is an AppCard?

A: The AppCard is Appalachian State University's photo ID card and is issued to all students, faculty and staff. It serves as campus identification and is electronically encoded to provide access to campus events and facilities. The AppCard also provides access to Meal Accounts and Appalachian Express Accounts.

Q: Which accounts do students have on their AppCard?

A: All students have the Meal Account for food purchases; and have the Express Account for food and non-food purchases. Meal Accounts are required for student who live in residence halls and are optional for students living off-campus. Express Accounts are optional accounts that students can use for food and incidentals on campus.

Q: Where can I use my Meal Account?

A: Having a Meal Account allows a student to purchase food and food-related items from all Food Services locations, vending machines, at The Markets (campus convenience stores) and for Bake Shop or Catering purchases

Q: Where can I use my Express Account?

A: The Appalachian Express Account is an optional account that may be set up for a student's convenience. This account is accepted at specific campus locations, including all Campus Dining locations, Athletics Ticket Office, Belk Library & Information Commons, Computer labs, Educational Media Services, Medical Center, some Laundry Machines, Student Accounts Office, the Campus Store and more. The Express Account DOES NOT REPLACE the meal account for on-campus students!

Q: Which accounts do Faculty and Staff have on their AppCard?

A: Two types of Express Accounts are available to Faculty and Staff - Faculty/Staff Charge Account or Faculty/Staff Debit Account.

Q: What is the Faculty/Staff Charge Account?

A: This account is available to full-time permanent Faculty or Staff members. It acts like a credit card with balances being paid by way of simple payroll deduction.

Q: What is the Faculty/Staff Debit Account?

A: This account is available to all employees, including temporary employees. It works just like a debit card, and you can deposit additional funds at any time either in the AppCard Office or online.

Q: I'm a Student. Can my parents add money to my Meal or Express Account online?

A: Yes! Click the "Make A Deposit" link on this site and enter the requested information. They will need your Banner Number to make the deposit. There is a $20.00 minimum to make a deposit online.

Q: How can I find my Banner ID Number?

A: Your Banner ID replaces your SSN. It is on your tuition bill as Student ID. You can log in to AppalNet, click the Self Service tab, and click Display Banner ID to find it fast. Make sure your parents know your Banner ID Number.

Q: How long does it take for my deposit to be on my AppCard Account?

A: Most transactions are on your account within 15 minutes, but a few transactions have taken as long as an hour. We are working with the provider to improve the time of deposits.

Q: Is there an online minimum deposit?

A: Yes. There is a $20.00 minimum to make a deposit online.

Q: What other ways can I make a deposit?

A: Deposits can be made in the AppCard Office located on the 2nd floor of the Campus Store. We accept cash, check, Visa or MasterCard.

Q: What is the refund policy for Meal Accounts?

A: Refunds for Meal Accounts will be made only in the case of official withdrawal from the University during a semester. The money refunded will be from the current semester only. Money from the prior semester will not be refunded. Account balances carry over from summer to fall and from fall to spring semesters. The last day to use account balances is May Commencement. Any balance remaining after May Commencement is non-refundable and will not carry over into summer sessions or the fall semester.

Q: What is the refund policy for the AppExpress Account?

A: Full refunds for Express Accounts will be made only in the case of official withdrawal from the University during a semester. Account balances carry over each year that a student is enrolled at Appalachian. At separation, Express Account balances can be refunded for the amount exceeding $50, if requested. Refunds will be given once a year to students who request it by the last working day before May Commencement. Request for refunds must be made through the AppCard Office located on the 2nd floor in the Campus Store. Telephone number to request a refund is 828-262-6141. Refunds will be issued from the Student Accounts Office in John E. Thomas Hall.

Q: Is your AppCard missing?

A: If you have misplaced your card or you think it is being used fraudulently, visit the Lost/Stolen Card section of the Personalize menu to deactivate your account.
